Our Business
Voltraware is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in the research and development of ICs for wireless power transfer applications. The management team consists of experts from semiconductor, IC design and wireless power related fields. VW8000, the transmitter side IC based on the BCD process of STMicroelectronics is the result of consolidating WiTricity’s wireless power technology IP blocks with ST’s essential IP blocks into an ASIC that serves as an Analog Front End with over 200 built-in registers for programming and NVMs for calibration/trimming.
Unlike Qi or PMA’s Magnetic Inductive (MI) wireless charging solutions that require precise placement of the device and effectively touching the charging surface for wireless power transfer, Voltraware’s technology is based on the principle of Magnetic Resonance (MR) that can charge multiple devices at a distance without the need for a precise alignment between the transmitter and receiver.
Voltraware’s Application Engineering team is led by Dr. William Hsu who was previously a key member of the Power Electronics Laboratory of the University of Auckland, New Zealand. This laboratory’s research in Magnetic Resonance is uniquely recognized as one of the leaders in the world. Dr. Hsu’s team is currently focusing on the emerging wireless power application in the e-mobility ecosystem addressing the needs for wireless charging of e-bikes and mini e-scooters as well as consumer electronics’ needs for simultaneous, multi-device charging at higher power levels.
Voltraware is a member of AirFuel Alliance, Wireless Power Consortium and Telecom Infra Project.
Our Leadership Team
Dr. Deyu Kao – CEO
An alumnus of Taiwan’s NCTU, Dr. Kao has a Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of California, San Diego, with over 20 years of experience in ASIC design ranging from driver ICs, graphics controllers, CPUs and SOCs and twenty-eight patents approved in US, Japan, China, and Taiwan. Prior to joining Voltraware, Dr. Kao has held various executive and technical leadership positions in Taiwan and Silicon Valley based semiconductor companies where he had total ownership responsibilities of his projects from system architecture to commercialization. Dr. Kao is also a very popular part time Professor in the EE department of NTUT teaching “VLSI Design”.
Vincent Cheng – DIRECTOR OF IC DESIGN
BS in Electronics Engineering, Fu Jen Catholic University. Vincent’s career covers more than 20 years of ASIC design in graphics controllers, micro controllers and SOCs. An all around IC design team leader equipped with hands-on technical virtuosity as well as project management skills with ability to deliver on time with quality for first time silicon to production. Prior to joining Voltraware, Vincent was the Business Unit Head of Princeton Technology Corp., a fabless IC design company listed in Taiwan’s OTC (over-the-counter) market, with proven track record in managing mixed signal IC design teams and developments using top down design flows and methodologies.
Dr. William Hsu – DIRECTOR OF APPLICATION ENGINEERING
Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, The University of Auckland, New Zealand. More than 10 years of experience in the R&D of wireless charging/power related technology and its applications. Dr. Hsu was a research fellow of the Power Electronics Research Group of The University of Auckland whose research specialties are famed for its Inductive (Wireless) Power Transfer Systems since the 1990s. Dr. Hsu has been successfully leading R&D teams in developing wireless charging technologies/products to enhance the user experience and/or with add-on values to his client’s original product. He was most recently Chief Technology Officer at PowerWoW Technology Inc.
Gary Chi – DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL MARKETING
